MAORI ENTERTAINMENT TO-NIGHT
This evening on the Town Square the Maori people of Whakarev/arewa and Ohinemutu will stage their own share in the Carnival. •Great though the Maoris' disappointment was when their entertainment had to be postponed on Monday night owing to the heavy rain, they have lost none of their infectious enthusiasm and no hesitation is felt in promising for to-night an entertainment which for variety, interest and pleasure will equal if it does not surpass anything yet offered or to come. Traditional Maori songs, poi dances and hakas and tableaux in costume are included in the programme and the far-famed Arawa singers and haka parties will intcrpret the story of their tribes. About 10 o'elock supper consisting of many kinds of foods deliciously cooked in a genuine Maori hangi will be served in native kits, whicfi may be retained as mementos of the occasion. For the supper the small eharge of sixpence will be made toward the cost of the food. To-morrow is New Year's Eve, the culminating point of the Carnival. The day's programme will be commenced on the Town Square at 2.30 p.m. with a ehildren's session when competitions will be held, including faney dross and other novelty events. In the evening the Grand Finale will take place, including fahcy costume competitions, a grand torchlight procession and the execution of Genei'al de Pression on the Town Square. Anyone in town caught failing to welcome the New Year in the proper spirit is likeiy to share in the execution.
