LYRIC THEATRE
JUBILEE BELLRINGERS The Jubilee Bellringers and Celebrity Vaudeville company commenced their season at the Lyric Theatre at the matinee on Saturday, to only a fair house, the glorious weather and outside attractions proving a strong opposition to all inside entertainment. Nevertheless, the fare provided hy the company was easily the best seen in Rotorua for many years. The items given by the bellringers proved their versatility as musicaj entertainers, their repertoire including numbers on hand bells, organ chimes, bellophones, violin solos and also vocal items, which were highly appreciated by the audience. An outstanding feature was the vocal items by Miss Tyrone, a fifteen year old artiste who is the fortunate possessor of a remarkable contralto voice, which was heard to great advantage in "When your Hair is Turned to Silver." She is also a capable soubrette. Mirth provoking magical items were given by Lamberto, who is a host in himself. The Fuschia Sisters appeared in double song and dance items, which were repeatedly encored. Kewpie, a eomedienne, gave several highly humorous numbers. Miss Rona Lupton rendered several ballads, which. were highly appreciated, as were humorous piano numbers by Mr. A. Lupton, who is very Versatilev An other outstanding turn was Chen Tai Lee, a Chinese foot juggler who is a past master of his art, this being his initial appearance in the Dominion. The programme concluded with Tyler's performing dogs and monkeys, a very fine animal act which refleeted the great skill and care in training of the owner. The " monkeys went through a series of remarkable evolutions, consisting of wire walking, hoop rolling, wheel-barrow races, trapeze work, and also bicycle riding and stilt walking. One monlcey provided a little sketch in which she takes out the baby in a perambulator, and performed several clever antics. Two of the monkeys gave a demonstration of a monkey fox trot, which brought down the house. The audience were loth to let the animals go and their efforts were repeatedly encored. We can say without hestitation that this combination lived up to their reputation and for the remaining three nights of their season they should be grqeted with bumper houses. There will be matinees each afternoon.
