BLOW-FLY PEST
"SPERO
MELIORA."
Sir, — May I, through the medium of your columns offer a suggestion to the Borough Council that, before promoting carnivals, and seeking to attract visitors to Rotorua, they should institute a general clean-up, and so help to mitigate the blow-fly nuisance. Never have I seen these pests so numerous and so well-fed as they are in Rotorua. Surely if the Council capnot afford concrete kerbs and adequate drainage facilities they can at least spray the open ditch.es and rubbish dumps with kerosene. It is of little use for tbe individual to purchase tins of fly killers and burn or bury all refuse, for it bas been my experience that, if you lcill a blowfly in Rotorua, at least six relatives atjend the funeral. In fact, so bad are they in certain areas, that, unless something is done to cope with the nuisance, it will not be long before ,the blow-fly suceessfully ousts the.tourists, not to mention the longsuffering residents.-^ '"•ain, etc.
