"You'd tiardly believe," remarked a Wellington smoke-merehant to a customer, "how faddy some men are about choosing a pipe. They'll turn over the contents of a show-case for half-an-houi', and then not be satisfied." "Are they as particular about choosing tobaeco?" smilingly queried the eustomer. "Not so partieular as they were before toasted tobaeco became so popular," i-eplied the tobacconist, "ever tried it?" "No. Heard a lot about it though. No nicotine in it, is there?" "Hardly any. Toasting takes the 'bite' clean out. No sore tongues or irritated throats with toasted. Quite harmless." "Does the toasting effect the flavour and bouquet?" "Improves both. I'm selling more toasted than any other sort." "More than one brand?" came the next question. "Four," was the reply. "Riverhead Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10." "Different strengths, I suppose?" "Yes. I lcnow you like something full-flavoured. What about trying Cut Plug No. 10?" He did, Now he smokes nothing else. Connoisseurs say New Zealand toasted tobaeco is the purest in the world.
