HUNT FOR GOLD
UNDERGROUND EXPLOR AT I ON • TO COMMENCE ON OLD CLAIM . VENTURE IN OTAGO That part .of.the Weatherstone'a ' auriferous cement country in Otago | upori which Industries Limited is beginning underground explaration is ■ what has been known as the Golden Crescent Sluicing Company's claim at 1 the north end of the Weatherstone's flat, almost at the ' site of the old township. Developmental operations actually started yesterday under the direction of Mr. G. W. Thomson, mining en~ gineer. As yet only a few men are engaged, but as the opening up pro-
ceeds more will be put on. If in the years to come the systematic sear.ch into the great dep'osit of gold-bear-ing ground develops an important industry, and such is the firm hope of many well-informed men, it will be recorded as a matter of history that tho first blow was struck on Tuesday, December 15, 1931. Otago in particular, and New Zealand as a whole, will watch the reports of the venture with keen interest.
