SCHOONER'S CREW HELPLESS AND STORM TOSSED ; FOR 17 DAYS SACK OF ONIONS ONLY FOOD

LONDON, Friday. Rendered helpless by storms and leaking badly, the Schooner Ria, from Newfoundland, drifted for 17 days in mid-Atlantic. The captain and crew were forced to catch rain water to quench their thirst. They burnt clothing to -attract the attention of passing ships, and were finally sighted at night by the steamer Aztec. They were reseued in heavy seas and landed at Honduras. The skipper of the Aztec, Captain Brice, on arrival at Southampton, said that a sack of onions Was the only food left aboard the Ria and the crew Were almost on their last legs. Sonxe of them had long, flowing whiskers.
