Supplier And Company In the Supreme Court at Auckland Mr! Jiistice Reed, in defining the relationships of co-operative dairy concerns ' With their suppliers, said-: "Taken generally, the position of a co-operative dairy company is that of an agent for the s'tipplierS. Its duty is to get the best return from the butter-fat supplied, and, subjeet to the deduction of working expenses and interest on the capital inVested, it divides the profits among its shareholders. The comrnission agent who handles the product Uiakes an advance, and the company in tur-n advances money to its . suppliers. At the end of the season any balance is shared pro rata. That is the ordinary method of conducting a co-opera-tive dairy company."
War On Sandflies - The war which has been declared on the sandflie's 'which infest the- bush country of New Zealand was adVanced a step when a further consignment of dragonfii'es Was liberated in Canterbury by Professor E. Percival, acting for the Departmeht : of Scientific and Industrial Research. Sandflies spend a great part of their time in an aquatic stage, and inhabit the fast creeks found in the bush country, where it is impossible to Use the kerosene or oil which are deadly against mosquitoes. On the question whether artificial teeth are so very much inferior to natural teeth, Mr. Justice Blair, in directing a jury in the Supreme Court, at Blenheim recently, said there was evidence before them that natural teeth were the better, but, he continued, perhaps some of the, jury were of the opinion -that artifl- , cial teeth had some merits; at any , rate they were not liable to ache. (Laughter). His Honour went on to suggest that the loss of one's teeth in an accident was not a matter demanding heavy general damages, for there were tti'Atty ttieii withoUt a tooth in their heads, and they were apparently quite happy. Strange Attack Two large stones were thrown through windows of the midnight express just after it had rea'Ched the Rakaia bridge early the other morning. One stone was thrown through a window of the first car and the ' other was thrown into the last car. In each case a passenger was struck on the head. ; * l "Danger Spots" I« Europe Several "danger spots" were threatening the peace of Europe, said Miss E. Scherer, who has just returned from a tour of the Continent, in an interview. There was, she said, still very strohg feeling in East Pf ussia, which was totaliy cut off from the remainder of Germany by the Polish Corridor. In Palestine conditibns were very unsettled." "Everybody seems to hate everybody else," she said. The French mandate in Syria was very unpopular and there, was constant friction between the , Arabs and the Jews. Gbnfetti Confetti, according to "l'Europe Nouvelle," Was invehte'd in FraUce 50 • years ago. But it is no longer -em--ployed in the country of its origin, , for police regul'ati'ohs have bannbd it. One might think from its name that it was an Italian invention, but "l'Europe Nouvelle" maintains that it emanated from the workshops of a French mah'U f actuf er of calendars. : A machine which Was' used to punch holes in calendar pads provided the first tiny blrcles' of mnny-cblbuf ed j paper, and the "first" to use them as missiles were workment in the shop. The prbp'rietbrs, •obse'rVing the results of such indiscipline, took some of the little bits of paper to a ball at the Opera an'd afti'Use'd -the 'ghests by throwing Showers of them from the box on to the heads of the dancers. The fashion caught on. The origin of the little paper streamers that are so popular at carnivals is not so ; e'asily accounted for. •'
