ATHLETIC CARNIVAL
ROTORUA AMATEUR CLUB'S BOXING DAY MEETING OFFICIALS APPOINTED A meeting of the Management Committee of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held last evening to discuss arrangements for the carnival meeting to be held on Boxing Day, December 26. Mr. E. G. Guy presided. The secretary reported that posters containing particulars of events to be decided on Boxing Day had been sent to all Amateur Athletic Clubs throughout the Dominion. Although their entries had not yet been received, a number of leading athletes had definitely promised to • visit Rotorua for the meeting. Inquiries had been made with reference to the supply of medals for the meeting, and a sub-committee was set up to complete arrangements. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council for the use of their public announcing system for use at the Government Grounds on Boxing Day. The following officials were appointed to control the carnival meeting. Any person unable to act is requested to notify the secretary (Mr. C. J. Casey), care "Morning Post" Office, immediately. Judge, Mr. G. H. Mason; clerk of course, Mr. E. G. Guy; umpires, Messrs. J. Mould, D. Sheaf and Pitts; field judges, Messrs. Clark, A. Walden, D. W. Steele and D. Hinton; track judges, Messrs. Robertson, Musgrave and A. de Luen; starter, Mr. G. H. Weir; lap steward, Mr. J. Hinton ; hon. surveyor, Mr. F. A. Gainsford; hon. surgeon, Dr. S. H. Hay; marksmen, Messrs. Cottrell and Hayward; call steward, Mr. E. Riggs; announcer, Staff Sergeant-Major Bates; timekeepers, Messrs. Shiels and la Trobe Hill. The treasurer was instructed to complete arrangements for gate l tickets and gatekeepers. An application for reinstatement made by J. A. Beckett was rqceived and a favourable recommendation is to be sent to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The following were elected' to membership of the Club : — Honorary members: Mesdames Devin and Park, Messrs. A. Walden, L. C. Ryan, E. E. Harvey, Munro and M. Ready. Active members: Messrs. R. L. Musgrave and Brocas. The chairman advised that Mr. Adolph had offered to donate to the club a eup for competition among cyclists, appreciation of his generous action being expressed by members.
