FUN AND FROLIC

BE PREPARE D CARNIVAL ORGANISER WANTS ASSISTANTS FOR SOME EVENTS HAVE COSTUMES READY Arrangements for the Rotorua Christmas and New Year Carnival are progressing rapidly, according to Mr. E. M. Finlayson, the organiser, and everything is completed in readiness for plenty of fun each evening during the week. There is, however, considerable scope for talented artists and Mr. Finlayson would be glad to hear from any persons, especially among Rotorua's >*oung people, who are willing to take parts in the various extravaganzas. Mr. Finlayson also mentioned that on Christmas Eve festivities would commence at 10 o'clock and that all those fond of dancing are invited to join in the revelry in the streets. A band of local pierrots will lead the way and Mr. Finlayson hopes that the public will respond to j their lead. The organiser would also be pleased to hear of four persons willing to act as assistants to Mephisopheles on New Year's Eve. As costumes will have to be procured for these parts he is anxious to complete his arrangements as soon as possible. The duties of these assistants will be to aid the Prince of Darkness, especially by arresting and bringing before the court any person they can catch with or without just cause. Business men, returned soldiers or other persons of a witty turn of mind are requested to call and see the carnival organiser before Saturday. There are many other parts in the | week's festivities which will provide visitors with entertainment, and those willing to assist are requested to communicate with the carnival committee in order that Rotorua may this year antertain its guests and visitors in a fitting manner. The carnival committee wishes to acknowledge the excellent preparafions being made by the. Maoris of both Ohinemutu and Whakarewarewa who are already making arrangements for a monster feast and entertainment to be held in the town square in conneetion with the. carnival. A further request is made by the organiser that the citizens of Rotorua prepare their fancy costumes as early as possible as invitations are now being sent out for the monster ball to be held in the Sylvana dance hall, on December 29. Mephistopheles has promised that there will be no charge brought by him against any person for making "Whoopee." The police, however, remain non-com-mittal.
