R.S.A. Assistattce The executive of the Rotorua -Re-» turned Soldiers' Association has decided to make available a sum of mortey from its canteen funds for the purpose of subsidising relief wages paid to unemployed returned men. This additional subsidy will be available only to financial members of the Association. When the offer was reported to the meeting of the Rotorua Unemployment Relief Committee on Monday night, appreciation of the Association's offer was expressed by the chairman, Mr. T. Jackson i and a motion to that effeet was recorded. ! Must . Support Families. ■ In order toi ensure that married fe;lief workers are supporting their wives | and families, the Rotorua Unemployment Reiief Committee has decided ' that in eases where sufficient proof is forthcoming that the wif e is not being assisted, action is to be taken to deduct accordingly from the worker's wages. - ' Holiday Bookings. Indications for the approaching i Ghristmas season appear ' to be hright. Several private hotels in the town are already booked out and further bookings are being made each day. A large number of visitors will also be aecommodated in private hom'es and . the horough motor camp, whil'e the publicity in connection with the carnival attractions is also drawing a large number of inquiries from intending visitors. First Aid Art Union The drawing of the First Aid Art Union will take place in the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, Wellington, at 5.30 p.m. to-morrow, instead of on Saturday, the date named on the tickets. The drawing will be broadeast from 2ZW, Wellington, and the names of the main prize winners will be broadcast from all YA stations at 9 p.m Fairy Spring at Tokaanu Tokaanu Creek, which runs into Taupo near Tokaanu township, is a trout stocked water which does not challenge comparison with its big neighbour Tongariro, but which has the distinction of originating abruptly from a hillside spring. Here the water may be seen bubbling up, keeping the nearby sand in what would seem to be perpetual motion, but not creating sufficient disturbance to interfere with the lordly cruising of one or two trout who pass from one tuft of water-cress to another, and make sudden dives from cover at tempting flies. There is no fishing done here, but the presence of eertain carded implements and the trampling of surrounding vegetation suggest that the trout pay toll all the same. Except for such vandalism, the spot is a fairy one, a study in silver and green when the morning sun glances through manuka and cordyline. Safefcy of Valuables at Baths Provision has been made at'the new Blue Baths for the safety of patrons' valuables. A number of small lockers are being installed near the ticket office so that bathers, who will be able to hire them for a small fee, may leave their money and other valuables. in safety while they are enjoying a swim. This service, which has not hitherto been available at the Go.vernment baths, is certain to prove popular with the public. Chrjstmas Vacations The primary schools throughout New Zealand will close for the Christmas holidays to-morrow, re-opening after a period of six weeks on Monday, February 1. The majority of the secondary schools have already completed their year's work and will re-open next year a day later than the primary schools.
