STRONG PROTEST

LOCAL COMMITTEE IGNORED BY UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD A strong protest against the attitude of the Unemployment Board ir> ignoring the local committee and overruling its decisions without notification, was voiced at Monday night'.meeting of the Rotorua Unemployment Relief Committee, when after some discussion, it was decided to write inquiring whether the committee might still consider itself as part of the general unemployment organisation, and whether it still had the confidence of the board. The chairman, the Mayor, Mr. T Jackson, referred to instances in which the board had totally ignored the committee. In one case, the first in timation he, as chairman, had received, was when he saw the matter reported in the Press. In another case. after he had definitely refused to follow a certain line of action on an individual case, the Board had countermanded his decision. • It was suggested, in view of the board's attitude, :that the committee should disband, but after some discussion, a motion that the committee should carry on, was carried. It was suggested that perhaps a large committee was too unweildy, but the chairman expressed the opinion thal while the executive could carry on the committee should still continue tc fhnction.
