SHANGHAI, Monday. Approximately 250 Chinese, passengers ion tlie Chinese int^r-island steamer Tatch, are believed to haveperished early yesterday following an outbreak of fire when 60 miles from Shanghai, according to accounts brought hy survivors who were rescued by fishing junks. The company officials dispute the passengers' estimate of the deaths, bnt the vessel carried 600, and half are still missing. Eight survivors have already suecnmbed to exposure in the icy waters. A panic followed the fire, the cause of which is unknown. The yessel was heached'. Hundreds had already jumped into the water to escape the flames. The Tatch was destroyed. The same company's vessel Taehi was lost in similar circumstances in March( when 600 lost their lives.
