CLUB'S COMMITTEE DISCUSSES BOXING DAY MEETING ARRANGEMENTS

TRIBUTES TO MR. A. R. RYDER. A meeting of the management committee of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held' on Wednesday evening, Mr. E. G. Guy presiding. The following were elected as honorary members of the club: — Messrs. D. W. Steele, G. Fuller, C. Hitchcock, J. J. Buchan,^ R. P. Spedding and W. A. McLean. Donations and trophies in connection with the carnival meeting to be held at the Government Gardens grounds on Boxing Day were promised by Messrs. Cambie (Ngongotaha), P. Butler, P. Kinninmont and E. G. Guy, the secretary being instructed to advise each donor of the club's appreeiation of his action. In reporting the transfer of Mr. A. R. Ryder, headmaster of the Rotorua High School to Whangarei, Mr. R. G. Y/ebb placed on record Mr. Ryder's keenness and enthusiasm for all amateur sport, and moved that a letter be sent to him thanking him for his valuable services in connection with the carnival meeting to be motion, the chairman stated that the loss of such an active member was a great blow to a newly formed club, but he knew that all present would congratulate Mr. Ryder on his appointment. The sub-committee appointed to draw up a programme for the Boxing Day carnival presented its recommendations, which, after discussion, were adopted. In view of the fact that the club has but recently been formed, and that its financial resources are necessarily small, an endeavour is to be made to secure the presentation of trophies for the Boxing Day meeting by those interested in the club, and its endeavours to provide attractions which will enhance the attractions of Rotorua as a tourist resort. It was decided that in lieu of a sports meeting on Friday, December 18, a special coaching evening be held at the Government Gardens grounds at 6 p.m., in preparation for the meeting on Boxing Day.
