CHRISTMAS RECESS

(British Official Wireless)

HOUSE TO RISE ON FRIDAY GREAT FLOOD OF QUESTIONS

RUGBY, Tuesday. The, House of Commons will rise for the Qhristmas recess on Friday, which day will be devoted to the adjournment motion. The closing days of the session will be marked by a congestion of business at question time. To-d.ay's Order Paper eontained 140 questions for oral answer. It is significant of the interest taken in matters connected with industry, trade, and the e.conomic position of the country, that out of this number 70 were addressed to the President of the Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runciman. No fewer than 18 questions were aimed at eliciting a promise for the extension of the operations of the Abnprmal Importations Act to various articles, and the House was amused when Mr. Runciman, grouping ,them together, gave a single answer to the effect that it would be improper for him to indicate. the articles which might or might. not be included in future orders under the Act.
