One councillor expressed the opinion that while a great number of settlers were up against it, a certain proportion were taking advantage of the present difficult- ' conditions ■ to avoid their responsibilities. County Finance The County Treasurer (Mr A. Bellingham) , reported to yest.erday's meeting of the ; Rotorua County Council that totai receipts for, the current year had. amounted to £l4,841 14s 8d with outgoing amounting to £14,802 ls lOd. It was reported that outstanding rates amounting to £770 had been placed in the hands of the County solicitors for collection. Cycle Road Races The Rotorua County Council yesterday received a letter from the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cyeling Club making application for general authority to nse the roads under the . Council' s jurisdiction for the purpose of holding long distance cycle races. It was explained that these races would only be held at intervals a.nd that the club would give due notification. Permission, as requested, was granted. Smith ,for memhership of the. new .adviaory board to he appointed by the ■ Government under the Broadcasting Act. Both Mr; Tapp and Mr. Smith are well qualified to fill a position on the board and the hope was expressed at the meeting that, in view of the central geographical position occupied by Rotorua and its unique character as a tourist and holiday resort, at least one of Rotorua's nominees will be appointed.
