QUESTION OF CHAIRMANSHIP OF COMING GENEYA CONFERENCE MR. A. HENDERSON'S POSITION
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
LONDON, Monday. In the House of Commons the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Sir John' Simon, replying to a question, said it' was not within the Govcrnment's proviiice to propose a new chairman at the Geneva Disa^mament Conference in place of Mr. Ai'thut Henderson. Sir W. H. Davidson (Kensington): Has not Mr. Henderson offered to resign, seeing that he does not represent in a general sense the House of Commons. Sir John Simon: The choice was not that of the House of Commons but of the League Couneil, which unanimously favoured Mr. Henderson. Mr. A. Henderson, then British Foreign Minister, was some months ago unanimously elected chairman of the Disarmament Conference, which is to assemble at Geneva in February. This was in recognition of his great efforts on behalf of disarmament. As the result of the election Mr. Henderson "was defeated at the polls, and it is doubtful if he will be competent to fill the position to which he was appointed.
