BURGLARS ACTIVE

TAILOR'S SHOP ENTERED AND QUANTITY OF CLOTHING STOLEN ROTORUA SHOPKEEPER'S LOSS The tailor's shop of Mr. R. R. Griffiths, in Tutanekai Street, Rotorua, was entered by burglars on Sunday evening and about £5ff worth of clothing was taken, while many other articles of apparel were strewn about the floor. Entrance was evidently made through a back window, which was found on Monday morning with the catch pulled away from the wood-

work and marks on the architraves indicating that the window had been forced. Mr. Griffiths was last in the shop early on Sunday evening and said, when interviewed by a "Post" representative, that so far as he could see everything was in place. It was not until the following morning that he discovered that the building had been entered. When he opened the door he found the shop in disorder. Various articles of apparel were scattered around the floor in the main shop and others had been taken into the back room and left all over the place. The back window was open with the catch pulled away from the woodwork, apparently wrenched from its fastening with a tool. Entrance was made in to the front quarters of the shop through a service slide just large enough for a person to squeeze through. In gaining access by the slide the burglar or burglars displaced all the boxes and garments on a shelf on the other side, leaving them scattered about the floor. Mr. Griffiths had not last night ascertained in detail what goods are missing, but he estimated his loss at approximately £50. Among the things taken were several pairs of light coloured trousers, shirts, collars, cardigans, hats, two brightly coloured blazers and two rugs. Until a tiiorough inspection has been made it will not be known if anything else has also been taken. Immediately after the discovery Mr. Griffiths notified the police who are investigating the matter.
