By Telegraph — Copyright.)
STRATFORD, Monday. Fines of £200 each were imposed by Mr. Tate S.M. on Dominick Sasarich, Felix Pobrica, and William Henry Lask for bookmaking. The charges were the sequel to a police raid on October 1." The defendants pleaded guilty. ' Counsel for the defence made a strong plea for a lesser penalty and referred to the law as hypocritical. Evidence was given by the ToWn Clerk as to the excellent character of Sasarich and Pobrica. The Magistrate said the Court was not concerned with the actions of the legislature. The police and the Court had to administer the. law, not to critisize it. He declined to reduce the penalties.
