TROTTING

CLAUDELANDS TO-DAY The prospects are bright for the Waikato Trotting Club's meeting at Claudelands to-day, with good fields engaged throughout. Despite the rain during the week, the course ought to be in fine order unless rain falls throughout to-day again. The principal event scheduled is the Waikato Handicap, in which Aucklanders are once more looking to Kewpie's Guy to show the opposition the way home. The Mangere pacer has a stern task asked to-day, and she will require to do much better than hitherto to pull this one off. A couple that will be hard to shake off are Impromptu and Gold Treasure. It will be remembered that the lattei- was considered unlueky not to have won the race at Alexandra Park won — and subsequently lost — by Ngingongingo, and although he is called upon to concede solid starts all round he must go a good race, for he is a genuine stayer. Impromptu performed well without much luck in better company at Addington, and of the remainder a good word can be said for the chances of Dan Direct, Nella Dillon (who may wlnt a race) , Dealer and Hal Chimes. However, it is hard to go past the

trio first mentioned: Kewpie's Guy, Gold Treasure and Impromptu, with Hal Chimes, on the strength of his good run at Epsom, a possible source of danger. Second Leg The second leg of the double is the last on the card to-day. This is the Farewell Handicap, and here again

the one sorted out as the goods is Kewpie's Guy. If reserved for this she will be very hard to beat. Nella Dillon reads better here than in the big go, for she is a better sprinter than stayer, even allowing for the fact that she has won over the two miles. Gaza raced prominently and unluckily at Epsom, and Our Peter is smart and on the up grade. On a wet track, Hohere would be -in strong demand, and Dan Direct reads better here than in the big event. Kewpie's Guy dominates the position, and in her absence the best may be Gaza, Dan Direct and Our Peter. In the Market Rathbr big fields will be seen in. action in the various other events at Claudelands, and among them are several green ones of whom not a great deal has been seen. The following, however, will be in the market in their engagements in the minor events: — Improvers' Handicap: Bessie Parrish Arapai Mati Herbiwyn. Progressive Handicap: Free Logan, Prince Etawah, Pegaway. Raglan Handicap: Prince Pedro, Sailor Boy, Inverness. Members' Handicap. Worthy Queen, Windchat, Bessie Parrish. Waipa Handicap: Prince Etawah, Free Logan, Pegaway. Dominion Handicap s Rey de Quest, Myrtelene, Roi Grande.
