GERMAN GIRL PAINTS ANIMALS FOR HOBBY SYDNEY, Monday. ■ Most successful artists build their J j reputations on one particular type of =■ work, and it is rarely we find, as in the case of George Lambert, an ar- _ tist who could claim distinction in mor-e than one branch of art. To be ■)i' a successful commercial artist reg quires constant application, as does | the mastering of the art of animal i painting or landscape. g But in Sydney at the present time | is a young German artist, Miss Hilde = Boelkin, who ha*s not only mastered y the art of animal painting, but has f§ since turned suecessfully to design- | ing wallpapers, printed cretonnes, and | is now doing portraits, mostly jof | children. n After two years of training in | Stuttgart, Miss Boelkin obtained prig vate tuition from Joseph Kerscheng steiner, the well known" German cir- | cus and animal painter. Since then, | in her pursuit of studies for her ani- | mai pictures, Miss Boelkin has visited = i fifteen different zoological gardens in | , various parts of the world. | j This talented girl has turned out | ; an enormous quantity of work since | j 1925, having painted 60 portraits in | j oils and over 1000 other. pictures in | j oils. Fortunately, she has been suc- | i cessful in selling mor-e than half of 1 j them. a In the field of commercial work | i one American firm sent her an order | for 1000 designs, to be spread over a 3 period of two years. = Miss Boelkin is at present living | with her father at Snails Bay. 5
