ON WATER LEAKS.

The most frequent water leak is at the water pump gland. Few vehicles of any age are left without a dripping there. The trouble may usually be remedied by tightening up the gland. Care should be taken not to make it too tight, because it then uses good engine 'power and 'iacts detrimentally against good idling and easy starting, and also wears the pump shaft. An important point is that the fine particles of worn-out greasy hemp pacing form one of the greatest causes of honeycomb radiator clogging, as they lodge in the spaces themseives, and further make a fine silt-collecting medium. Proper greasy hemp packing, if used, costs ■but a few pence to replaee.
