CRICKET COMMENTS

(By

"Cover-point.")

The fom th series of matches, which ,/efe commcnced last Saturday, pro/uced some good cricket and per'orinances. Teams are now settling .own and, in consequence, some fairly laige totals are being made. After dismissing Old Boys for 67 runs, Mamaku have 218 runs in hand for the loss of eight wickets, and it appears that their chances of a good win are assured. The position of Albion, who are playing City, is the same as that of Mamaku, they having made 182 runs 1 for six wickets in their first strike, , as against the 47 runs made by City. Ngongotaha, playing High School, compiled 125 runs in their first innings, and in leply High School have lost one v/icket for 97 runs. Best Performances Lenihan (AlLion) continues to bowl with remarkable consistency, and against City took seven wickets for 18 runs, and he and the fast bowler, Sutherland, who took two wickets for 13 runs, went through the Ngongotaha tenm in quick time. Proving that he is a good all-rounder, Lenihan scored 33 runs in the first innings. McGill was the top scorer on the Albion side and mainly by good driving had 71 runs not out to his credit when sturiips were drawn for the day. Dawson and Thomas were the mainstay of the. Ngongotaha team arid tdgether scored 82 runs of the i26 credited to their team. The formef was caught and bowl'ed when 58 and the latter was undefeated with 34 to his credit when the last wiclcet fell. Mamaku have a fine pair of opening batsmen in D. and A. Simmons, and on Saturday their combined scotes totalled 90. 0When the first wicket fell ' Narikervis carried on brightly and added 30 runs to the total. Probably the most consistent batsman in the competition this season is Beale of the High School team. In his last three visits to the crease he has scored 122 runs, the individual tottils being 40; 39, not out, and 43 not out, against Ngongotaha last Saturday. This batsman is worth watchand should go far in the game.
