In addition to the. Labour gains in the cities, there was a onsiderable. increase in the Labour vote in a number of the rovincial constituencies. The heaviest losses were sustained by the Coalition fnited, which lost four seats, while changes also took place in tiree constituencies previously held by Independents and in two eld by Coalition Reformers. Labour lost only one seat. Labour ecured the largest gains, capturing five seats previously held by ;s opponents while the seats captured by the Coalition were won |y Reformers. Independents under different banners were also [esponsible for changes in three constituencies. The nett losses Ind gains were : Labour 4 gains, Reform one gain, United -two losses, Independents three losses, three gains.
