CONTRACTORS' DISPUTE WITH GOVERNMENT SETTLED PAYMENT TO BE MADE q
— By T elegi'aph — Copyriglit) .
CAIRO, Monday. The dispute between the Norton Griffiths Company and tha Egyptian1 Government over the non-eompletion of the heightening of the Assuan dam has been settled by the Government; releasing £100,000 which the NortonGriffiths Company deposited, and also ; paying £70,000 as part value of the! plant left on the site when the Egyptian Government took over the scheme. After Sir Norton Griffiths'" death the Egyptian Government claimed; the right to eonfiseate the whole of! the £360,000 worth of plant, in addition to damages for the non-eomplet-ion of the contract. The dispute has been of somewhat long standing, Sir Norton Griffiths, went for a sail on the Nile and later was found dead in the boat. He had been somewhat embarrassed by the demands made by the Government in regard to his contract, the impression being that the Egyptian authorities were more anxious to create difficulties than to smooth the wa,y for the successful completion of the work.
