, springboks' task huge crowd sees bradman continue brilliant innings australia's strong position

— By Telegraph — O pyright),'

Rec. Nov. 29, 5.5 p.m. BRISBANE, Sunday. A great crowd of 20,000 which is a record for the Brisbane cricket ground, saw Australia on a good wieket set a formidable task for the South Africans in eontinuation of the Test match. There was some sparkling play in the sultry heat. Australia's innings occupied 391 minutes. Bradman, in breaking Trumper's record score against the South Africans, hit 24 fours and batted 227 minutes. After a great innings he was deceived by Vincent. Oldfield, who was unconquered, gave an admirable display and his partnership with Bradman added 60. He batted 117 minutes, hitting 16 for 54. The visitors maintained a determined attack and their fielding was never loose, Cameron's sharp wicket-keeping* being a feature. The position necessarily restrained the visiting batsmen's play for most of the afternoon, until an hour befiore stumps, when both Mitchell and Taylor hit out, particularly the .latter. The Australians' fielding was good only Oldfield's wicket-keeping display being below standard. He missed three chances. Runs were always difficult to obtain. Only one run was scored off Grimmett's first six overs. Scores : — AUSTRALIA.— First Innings.
