(To the Editor). Sir,— When speaking at Rotorua on October 19, 1928, Mr. C. H. Clinkard, now Coalition candidate for Rotorua, stated his attitude towards the wheat duties, as follows: "The United Party . . . f avoured the lifting of the wheat duties, which were really imposed to protect the wheatgrowers of the South Island at the expense of the bread-eaters of the North. As a re- [ sult of the wheat duties, Auckland millers had to pay £4 10s a ton more for flour than they otherwise would have had to do and every bread-win-ner had to pay his share of this." One would like to know why, in the face of wages cuts, Mr. Clinkard has since changed his attitude, and supports wheat duties. Is this what his party calls "equality of sacrifice." — -I am, etc.
