GALATEA ESTATE.
SCRUB-CUTTER.
To the Editor. Sir, — With regard to scrub-eutting at Galatea estate, there appears to be, in Settler's letter, some inaceurate and misleading statements that call for correction. On the scrub-cutting job, I was told that only large holes would be required to be filled in, and that only large sods were to be kicked off the big roots, the reason for this is quite obvions, even ,to a novice and was readily done in our stride. Moreover, we were also advised to cut the large and heavy scrub just below ground level with the light axes with which we were provided, so as to avoid the necessity of grubbing out the larger stu-mps later. I understood that only the largest stumps were to be grubbed completely out. 'The specification that Settler cojnplains about was never worked to as far as I know on the job. In fact, I was informed that it was cancelled. The general instructions given by the foreman were that the scrub had to be cleared to permit of shallow double-furrow ploughing or skimploughing. I trust, sir, that you will find room in your journal for 'this brief letter, and thanking you. — I am, etc.,"
