MR. D. R. F. CAMPBELL.

The Country Party candidate, Mr. D. R. F. Campbell, is making his first essay for political honours in the present contest. Mr. Campbell is very well known throughout the southern portion of the electorate, where for many years he has been closely identified with sports, farming and general activities. The candidate is a New Zealander and a descendant of the Nova Scotian immigrants who after leaving Scotland for Nova Scotia, eventually came to New Zealand and settled at Waipu. Mr. Campbell has a record of forty years' service in the teaching professioix, and for the last 32 years, prior to his retirement nearly three years ago, held the position of headmaster of the Morrinsville school. During his headmastership, the school was raised to the status of a district high school. In addition to his activities as ■ headmaster of the school, Mr. Campbell was the first secretary of the Waikato branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute and later filled the position of president of the branch for a number of years. After his retirement, Mr. Campbell accepted a position with a well known stock and station firm and his activities in this connection brought him closely in toixch with mexnbers of the farming community and their problexns. In addition, Mr. Campbell has owned and farmed land for the past 20 years and has two sons farming. Mr. Campbell was closely associated. with the volunteer territorial activities for a number of years, and was for some time in command of "B" ' squadron of the 4th Waikato Regiment. He is at present on the

retired list with the rank of major. In addition, Mr. Caxnpbell has always taken a keen interest in all kinds of sports. He was for some yeax-s a member of the Morrinsville Rugby Union and has a son who has represented Waikato on the Rtigby field.
