MR. A. F'. MONCUR
The Labour candidate, Mr. A. F. Moncur, made his first excursion into politics at the 1928 election, when he contested the Bay of Plenty seat against the then Minister for Public Wox'ks, the Hon. K. S. Williams. Mr. Moncur was born in Victoria in 1888, and came to New Zealand at an early age. He worked at farming occupations in the South Island for some time in the Tomahawk Valley, near Dunedin. In 1910, Mr. Moncur joined the Railway Department and worked at Tirau and Putaruru for a number of' years before heing transferred to the Auckland traffic staff of the department. While stationed at Rotorua in 1921, he resigned from the railway service and went into business. During his service with the department, Mr. Moncur was chairman of the Auckland branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants for the year 1920-21. The candidate has taken a very active interest in public life in the Bay of Plenty district. He has been
a member of the Whakatane Borough Council for the last five years, and secretary of the Domain Board since 1927. He was for some time a member of the Whakatane school committee, axxd has been secretary of the Whakatane branch of the Labour Party since its ixxception.
