FANCY DRESS DANCE
A very successful children's fancy dress dance was held by the Devon St. Ladies' Guild in the Devon Street hall last Friday evening. The dance began with the usual grand march to display the costumes, many of which were so ingenious that they offered a formidable task to Mrs. Ashton and Mrs. Miller, who had kindly consented to take over the judging. The evening was passe'd with dances and games. Supper and soft drinks were served at 9 o'clock and met with -hearty approval. The prizes were awarded as follow: Prettiest costume for girls, Valerie Hulford, as Rajah, and Dorothy Smith as Japanese lady. Best boy's costume, John Kingsland, as naval officer. Most original boy, Desmond Richardsoh, as chef. Best poster girl costume, Shiela Knowles, as McDonald's ice cream. -TBest poster boy, Billy Knowles, as Clarke's soft drinks. The evening concluded with the National Anthem and three hearty cheers for the hostesses. Thanks are due to the Ladies' Guild and other willing helpers for the suecess of the evening. 5
