MR COATES ADDRESSES CHRISTCHURCH MEETING

CHRISTCHURCH, last nigbt. The Minister of Public Works .and Leader of the Reform Party, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, addressed a large meeting in the Caledonian Hall ton'ght. Adm'ission was by ticket, but 2000 persons outside listenqd in. - 'The police took no risks on this occasion, a strong cordon being formed to keep the crowd twenty yards from the doors of the hall. Two Communists gained admission hy the use of cleverly forged ticlcets,' but were discovered and removed. Mr. Coates said that Mr. H. E. Holland had heen asked to join in the National Government and he threw out a further invitation still to
him to join, declaring that the assistance of every party was needed to overcome the present crisis. A resolution of thanks and confidence in the Coalition Government was ' carried, with cheers. Mr. Coates was entertained to supper in the hall before leaving, the crowd dispersing before he left .the hall.
