» While fishing , at Matapu, Tom Guy, son of Mr. W. A, Guy, noticed an eel had rounded up and driven a gQQd sized trout in shallow -^ater.' The young angler stepped into the comhat with his home-made gaff (an eel hook .tied ori a small willo.w stiek), and with this he effected .the capture of the eel, which weighed 221b, was 57 inches in length, and 15 inches in girth. Interest ran high among angler s as to the number and size of trout this eel contained, .but on examination the stomaebi was' found to be empty. This eel had only recently escaped capture, { as a hook with a short piece of line attached was found deep down at the back of its throat.
