I The selection of the Coalition candidate for Dunedm North was bitterly attacked by Mr. W. R. Hayward (Independent Reform) in his opening address. "There were very many ob-r jectionable features in the selection," said Mr. Hayward. "If the selection had been contested on decent lines I would have withdrawn, but the manner in which the selection was conducted was so ob jectionable that I was compelled to stand to retain my selfrespeet."
