A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL REPORT PRESIDENT'S REVIEW OF PAST YEAR'S WORKINGS SATISFACTORY POSITION The annual review of the workings of the Rotorua A. and P. Association presented at the annual meeting on Friday by the president (Mr. H. P. Ford), stated inter alia: "It is very gratifying to record that the Association is placed in a sound financial position. The annual show fixture gave striking evidence of the endeavours of your committee in its determined efforts to carry out the aims and objects of the Association. The committee have been faced with considerable expense during the year, owing to the amount of reorganising work necessary to regain the prestige previously held by the Association. During the year ^20 new members joined the Association, whilst thr'ee resignations were accepted, leaving the membership at 114. Winter Show The Winter Show fixture was held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 24 and 25, in the R.M. Co. buildings and proved most successful from a show aspect. The entries showed a marked' increase in all sections. "By special arrangement. the

North Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association allocated the North Island Championship to the Rotorua Association for white leghorns and black orpingtons. This, in addition to th usual classes of poultry, added increased interest to this section, with the satisfactory result that an increase of 100 was shown in entries. The quality of the birds in all classes showed marked improvement, whilst the black orpington classes were especially commented upon by the judge for their exceptional quality. "Field and Garden section again showed increased support, both in entries and quality. The root crops were worthy of special mention, being an exceptionally fine display. The home industries section again showed popularity, as classes were up to the usual fine standard of former years. "The needle and fancy work section was most attractively displayed and the attention it commanded by the public, showed the high standard

j of the exhibits was fully appreciated. "The school classes were keenly contested by the children and illustrated to parents and others the high standard of efficiency that is maintained in the various schools. An innovation this year was the introduction of school courts. Four schools respectively competed and without doubt proved a most attractive feature of the show, whilst also encouraging children to put f orward their best efforts in their work. Exhibition at Auckland "Acting upon the invitation of the executive of the Auckland Winter Exhibition Committee who agreed to provide space at the Winter Exhibition and stand the cost of freight of the exhibits, the committee decided to avail themselves of the opportunity to display a root erop exhibit as an advertising medium of the district's capabilities. "The favourable impression created by the exhibit amply justified the action taken, therefore bringing the potentialities of the district into prominence. "Apart from the display, Rotorua was also successful in carrying off first prize in the root crop competition at the exhibition. The Association's thanks are due to the Messrs. E. Armer and H. Hesketh who were r esponsible for staging the displays. "For a number of years it has been the desire of the Association to become an incorporated body under the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Act, and this was accomplished during the past year. This action enabled the Association to procure in its own rights a section of land, be-

ing portion of the town belt which had been previously set aside for the Rotorua Agricultural and Pastoral Association. "The balance sheet fully explains the operations for the year. The wonderful success obtained by the 'Golden Key' Art Union has enabled the Association to place its finarices in an exceptionally sound position. The bank overdraft that has been carried by the Association for a number of years, has now been cleared, and

the guarantors released. The cash assets amount to £6,112, and of this amount £6,000 is placed on fixed deposit and interest bearing. "In conclusion, I wish to avail myself of the opportunity of thanking the secretary for the diligent manner in whieh he has carried out his duties, also the time and attention given to organising and furthering the interests of the Association. This work has been accomplished in a most creditable manner, and warrants the appreciation of the Association in general. Also, I wish to extend my sineere thanks to my Committee,, who so ably assisted me to carry out my duties. Attendance at meetings, which represents an average of 75 per cent., assures me of their keen interest in the welfare of the Association. I am indebted to the stewards for their co-operation and untiring efforts during the Winter Show, and I extend to them my utmost appreciation."
