With the attendance inereasing, a big crowd during the afternoon saw the early cqllapse of the Queenslanders in their match with South Af rica which was played in hrilliant weather. The wicket caused trouble at first, but.later was perf ect. Cook, who was making his first j appearance in State ci'icket, made a [ great knock in a partnership with [ Hurwood, who was selected for his bowling. The partnership produced | 68 runs. Hurwood is the highest individual State sccfrer against South^ Africa, the previous best being Jefinings who made 67 runs. Van der Merwe's wicket-keeping , was a feature, his quickness winning frequent applause. Yincent bowled effectively throughout. Local spectators were delighted when early in the visitors' innings Thurlow, the fast bowler had Mitchell caught behind the wicket. Thurlow followed this success by clean bowling Dalton.
