Valueless Cheques. A middle-aged man, whose name was order ed to be suppressed until the charge is heard, appeared in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court yesterday morning before Mr. S. L. Paterson, g.M., charged with passing two valueless qheques, one to Andrew Brown, of Rotoroa, and the other to Arthur Pyril Randerson, of Rotorua. On the applipation- of the police he was remanded until Monday. Camp at Rotorua. . Labour representatives, however, deny, that the Leader of the Labour Party, Mr. H. F. Holland, has postponed his forthcoming : visit to Rotorua.
Recent Art Union. At the annual general meeting of the- Rotorua A. and P. Assoeiation held last evening, it was deeided to convey the appreciation of the assoeiation to the member for the district, Mr. C. H. Clinkard, for his efforts in obtaining a permit for the recent art union which benefitted the funds of the assoeiation. Jackie Coogan Helps Jackie Coogan certainly did not know when he wa&- playing in the picture "Tom Sawyer". that he w.quld helping the unemployment fund in Rotorua. Still he is .doing so, ber cause the seats for next Sunday night's picture are being booked fast. and tickets are selling very quickly and there is no doubt that the Majestic will be packed out on Sunday night. Tourists For Rotorua. Advice received by the District Manager of the Tourist Departmenj; (Mr. L. J. Bayfeild) states that a large party of American tourists, who will be arriving by the pleasurp steamer . Malolo, will visit Rotorua j on November 29 and 30. A party of nine will make a through motor trip via Waitomo j Chateau Tongariro and Wairakei and these will stay the night of November 30 in Rotorua. The remainder of the party, approximately 109 in number, will leave Auckland by special train on Sunday, November 29 and will arrive in Rotorua at 3 p.m. After leaving the train they will, transfer to cars for a trip to Whaka and in the evening, : there will be a specially arranged ; Maori eoncert. On Monday, November 30, the party will make the Five Lakes trip, calling at Tikitere, before departing at 1.15 p.m. for Auckland. Unusual Request. An American tourist, Mr. Swain, who is a through passenger by the S,ierra which touches at Auckland today, is so keenly disappointed at his inability to break his journey in order to sample the fishing at Rotorua that he has made a request that a good specimen of Rotorua trout should be forw&rded.to him at Auckland to be delivered when the boat berths. Field Competitions. . A suggestion from the Ngongotaha branch of the Farmers' Union, that the Rotorua A. and P. Assoeiation should consider the institution of field competitions from which the produce could be exhibited at the forthconr'ng winter show, was discussed, at a meeting of the general committee of the assoeiation last evening. Mr. C. S. Dalgliesh was appointed convenor of a committee to go into the matter. The competitions which will be^ considered, will be for roat erops and pastures and will be on the lines adopted in Taranaki and other distriets.
