ANGRY BOYS DEAL WITH MAN WHO HOAXED THEM. MELBOURNE, Tuesday. Three hundred boys, drawn to St-. Kilda by an advertisement for "three smart and tidy youths," early this morning, tackled a man whom they suspected to have hoaxed them, and threw him into the sea. The advertisement was signed "John Carlyon, Caflyon's Hotel." The hotel management denied all knowledge of it, but stated that they ! had given shelter to a man who had ; claimed to have walked from Cape York to Melbourne. This man was brought out to meet \ the boys, but when he told them he ] had only 10s the boys took matters into their own hands. One of them ; punched him in the face, knocking - h:m out. Then the semi-conscious man, bleeding from a cut on the face, was , picked up by the boys and thrown ] into the shallow water near the baths. ] He struggled out and walked off. ,
