latest reports FURTHER GOOD BAGS AND IMPROYEMENT IN CONDITION CATCHES AT ARATIATIA RAPIDS Further good bags are reported from the Taupo fishing distriet and reports received by the Conservator of Fish and Game for the Rotorua acclimatisation distriet (Mr. A. Kean) indicate that the fish taken are improving in condition every day. After the first influx at the beginning of the season the number of visiting anglers has fallen off, but launches are still being kept busy and have had catches of up to 26 for a day's fishing. Some splendid fish have been landed on both the fly and the spoon and general reports indicate that there is no shortage of fish in any of the waters. A large number of fish have been, taken in Tokaanu Bay by trolling parties. The condition of the fish in this part of the lake is not yet all that could be desired, but is improving. Fishing in Whakaipo Bay, Mr. Talbot and party took 12 good fish averaging 5|ibs, the heavest weighing 7 lbs. In the same bay, Dr. Pinfold (Hamilton) and party using the spoon, took 26 fish averaging 4ilbs and with the heaviest fish weighing 6 lbs. Another trolling party in Whakaipo Bay, Messrs Paul and Reynolds, took 21 fish averaging 5 lbs weight. A Taupo party, fly-fishing in the same water, took 20 fish also averaging 5 lbs. In The Waikato • In addition, dry fly catches of from 3 to 10 fish have been taken in Taupo waters while in the Waikato River above the Huka Falls, 10 to 20 rods have been out each evening. Mr. G. Cricket, of Taupo, fly-fish-ing at the Aratiatia Rapids, took 12 fish averaging 511bs and with the heaviest weighing lbs. Four of these fish were over 6 lbs in weight, and all were in exeellent condition. With three other rods Mr. Cricket also secured a good bag some days later at the rapids. Sixteen fish averagain 41bs with the heaviest weighing 6 lbs were taken on the fly. Messrs Harlow Bros. also fished the rapids and took 14 averaging 31 lbs. Fishing in the Fly Pool, Messrs Douglas and Renorf, of Hawke's Bay, secured a bag of 13, but these fish were in only fair condition. Good Week's Catch Three rods, Messrs. 'Fuljames and party, took 102 fish averaging 5 lbs in Whangamata Bay for a week's fishing. Three 10 1b fish were takenin the bag and 6 of the catch were between 7 and 8 lbs. Both the spoon and fly were used, and all the fish were in good condition. There have been very few anglers on the Tongariro waters since the opening of the season. Since November 1, one local angler has taken 109 fish averaging 51bs. and with the largest weighing 8 lbs. Another Tongariro angler since the opening of the season, has taken 50 fish averaging 41 lbs. Tauranga-Taupo, Motutere, and Jellicoe Point have been very little fished. Some very good catches are reported on the Waitahanui. Two rods on November 16 took 9 fish the heaviest weighing 11 lbs. the average being 6ilbs. Another party of four, took 23 fish all in good condition and averaging 5| ibs. Fishing on the two, three and four mile bays is stated to be patchy, although a number of anglers have been on this favourite stretch and have all met with fair success. All launches that have been out, have had good catches and bags of from 16 to 26 have been the usual catch for a day's fishing. Anglers using row-boats in the bay and at the outlet are all reported to be doing fairly well. The average of the fish taken in this area is 5 lbs. and fish up to 9 lbs in weight have been taken.
