BUTTERFLY FAIR
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT ST. JOHNS AMUSING C OMPETITI ON S The members of the St. John's Ladies Guild are to be congratulated upon their splendid organisation, which greatly aided the undoubted success of their Butterfly Fair, held in St. John's hall yesterday afternoon and evening. Yarious stalls were arranged around the room which was brightj ly decorated with masses of foliage, [ among which hundreds of multi-col-oured butterflies were scattered. Afternoon tea was served upon a platform decorated as a bower with trellice-work, foliage and butterflies. Many novel and well patronised competitions provided both amusement and a great deal of interest both in the afternoon and in the evening, while willing helpers were by no mea'ns lacking . One of thq outstanding features of the fair was the well-arranged flower stall boasting masses of blooms of every description and colour. Mr. A. C. Randerson, in officially opening the Fair spoke briefly, in a humorous vein, of the "openness" of the function and cordially welcomed everyone present. The baby show, Which attracted .many competitors proved a decided l suCCess. Mrs F. Dyer, of Wellington, ! who judged the babies admitted that her position was a difficult one. g Of the competitions, one which caus- | ed much amusement and a great | deal of speculation was the estimat- 1 ing of the combined weights of Mr. | and Mrs Randerson, the discerning | winner proving to be Miss E.
