AUCKLAND, Monday. The brothers Bernard Charles Cole (23) and William Noel Cole (24) were sentenced to-day to three years' hard labour for a series of burglaries. They were arrested under sensational cr cumstances in a lonely house near Swanson. Counsel said poverty was the explanat'on of the offenees. H's Honour Mr. Justi.ce Herdman said it was the worst ca«e of system•atic burglary for a considerable time. The sentenees would begin at the exp'ration of the oresent tevm of twelve months which both are serving. The Cole brothers adrr.tted a number of burglaries and thefts, spread over a wide area, including crimes at Raglan and Ohaupo. They made long e -.cursions 'n a stolen motor car.
