HAIR ON FIRE
THRILLING RESCUE OF CHILD FROM FLAMES SYDNEY, November 3. To rescue a three-year-old baby from a blazing bed, two men last nig'ht leaped through the flaming roof of a tent at Moorefields and snatched the child from certain death. Frederiek Gochrane and his young wif e had been living with their son, Frank, aged three, in a humpy made of bags and tents. « He and his wife were sitting on the grass about 10 o'clock last night when they noticed their humpy in flames, a spark from the fire having fallen on the roof. "Baby is asleep in there," screamed Mrs. Cochrane, who then fainted. Her husband called out for help, and he and a man named English tried to enter through the door, but the flames repelled them. "Fm burning," the child cried in
terror. English and Cochrane climbed on to a fence and dived clean through the flaming roof, falling on the bed. Frank was on his knees, surrounded by flames, and his pyjamas and hair were on fire. They carried the boy to saf ety, and then with others beat out the flames.
