MAJESTIC
TO-NIGHT "The Middle Watch,." screening tonight, is very amusing, and excellently directed. An excellent cast ipcludes Owen Nares, as the captain of a British war vessel; Jack Raine; Margaret Halstan; two admirably comdc Cockney Marines, played by Henry Wenman and Reginald Purdell; and Dodo Watts. The leading feminine role is playqed by Jacqueline Logan, who is the one American in this picture, which was directed hy Norman Walker. "I played my first part when I was eight. I was chosen for the MadHatter in 'Alice in Wonderland,' and the girls all screamed when they first heard of it, because, you see, my name, 'Dodo,' is Dutch fqfr 'mad.' Not long afterwards, I joined a theatrical company at the Elephant and Castle Theatre. It was ripping fun, and we played all kinds of shows — chiefly, those gripping, wholly impossible melodramas." "And now I've left the stage, and all my jolly times at the dear old Elephant and Castle are far behirid ,me, and I've signed a contract with British International Pictures, Ltd. Oh, Elstree's just gorgeous, and I'm having the jolliest time of my life, I've got a Tbrand-new car — and I've just learned to drive — so Bessie Bunter and I go spinning along the eountry lanes down to Elstree every morning, thoroughly enjoying life. There are some people who say they wouldn't trust their lives with me in that car, but Bessie's a darling and she trusts me as she trusts herself. You see, Bessie's my dog. I've had her since I was at school, and I named her after my favourite schoolgirl character. So you can under stand that Bessie and I are just inseparables. Of course, I'm working frightfully hardv down there, I've just been cast for several new pictures, so you'll see and hear quite a lot of me in the days to come. But what a pity 3! can't see you — I'd just love to — for I feel that we'd have such a lot in eommon, don't you?" Jaequeline Logan, the American film star, appears in the new British International "talkie," "The Middle Watch," in the part of Mary Carlton, an American girl, with another girlfriend, Fay Eaton, is forced to spend a night on board a British warship. The girl-friend role is taken by Dodo Watts, the pretty ingenue English actress, who took the only woman's part in "Almost a Honeymoon," another British Internatioinal picture. The captain of the battleship, who develops a romance with his unexpected American guest is played by Owen Nares, and Jack Raine acts as his Commander. "The Middle Watch" has been directed by Captain Norman Walker, who was responsible for "The Hate Ship" and "Loose Ends."
