COMMUNICATION WITH BACK-BLOCK AREA CUT OFF ACCESS ROADS DESTROYED

WANGANUI Sun. Reports have just come to hand that two cloud bursts of unusual severity occurred in the hack eountry about 20 miles from Raetihi, causing unimown damage. It is estimated that the damage to the roads, • exceeds £2000. The storm centres were in the vicinity of Ruatiti and Puhetata. One settler whose property was on the fringe of two storm areas stated that some of his sheep were drowned by the water, which seemed to appear out of the heavy storm clouds. Communication with the afffected district can only be effeeted by pedestrians. The Waimiro County englneer stated that it will be at • least three monfchs before a tracfc can be cut which wili enable wool to he brought oui.
