Dangerous Corner The opiuiou that the interseetion of Ranolf Street and Malfroy Roact was the most dangerous corner in Rotorua, and that special steps should be faken in providing safeguards, was e.xpressed at Thursday night's ' Roto-. rua Borough Council meeting. It was recommended hy the general committee that the sileht policenian in the centre of the interseetion "Be removed and replaced hy a silent policeman on each corner of the boundary line. After some diseussion, the Council reached the conclusion that this would not be entirely satisfaetory and It was finally decided to have specially illumined signs constructed which will set out' the speed limit and show up at night. Winter Cup Competition" Four members of the Rotorua Bowling Cl'uh, Messrs W . L. Richards, E. Fowkes, J. Tyson, and S. Williams, visited Okoroire last Saturday for the opening of the Okoroire club's season. The occasion was taken by the Rotorua members. to present the Winter Cup, a trophy j which the Rotorua elub lias decided to present for competition among the clubs of the district, to the Okoroire f club which is to be its first holder, j The competition will be open to the jVlatamata, Te Poi, Hinuera, Putaruru, Okoroire, Mamaku and Rotorua clubs, and will he for single rink matcheS. The following draw for the first round of the competition, was made on.the green, Hinuera. v. Okoroire; Te Poi v. winner, No. 1; Rotorua v. winner, No, 2; Tirau v. winner, -No. 3; Matamata v. winner, No. 4; Putaruru v. winner, No. 5. The cup was presented on behalf °f the Rotorua* club, by Mr. W. L. Richards aud warm annreciation of .the action of
the donors, in promotmg this interesting district competition, was expressed by representatives of the other clubs present. The opening of the Okoroire club's season provided a very pleasant afternoon's bowling in which the four Rotorua representatives participated as a rink. Election Nominations Advice has been received that the nominations * of candidates for the General Election on December 2, will close on November 20, at noon, has been received hy the Returning Officer for the Rotorua district, Mr. J. L. Crowther. Visitors' Successful Fishing Trip On Thursday last Sir Maynard Hedstrom and Lady Hedstrom, of Fiji, spent the day trout fishing on Lake Tarawera, under the guidance of Mr. Alf Warbrick. Lady Hedstrom landed nine good rainbow trout and Sir Maynard Hedstrom secured 11. The largest fish weighed '81bs. and the average of the catch was 4 h lbs. Marine School for Women. So many Turkish girls have recently shown a desire to go to sea as captains and engineers that the Merchant Marine School at Stamboul has decided to open a branch for women aspirants. The first students will be enrelled this year. Relic of Ancient Marois. A relic of pre-pakeha days in New Zealand has been found on Alexandra Road, Mount Victoria, Wellington. As a Kilbirnie resident was Walking along that fine scenic road he saw a peculiarly-shaped stone, and picking it up discovered it to be an ancient stone adze 5in in length. Men Run Stall at Fair. The men of $t. John's Church, under the leadership of Mr. T. Lindsay, chairman of the grounds committee, have asked permission of the ladies controlling the Butterfly Fair to run a jumble stall in aid of the beautifying of the church grounds. The men will not vie with the ladies by any attempted "butterfly" decorations, but they and- their stall will be quite consistent with the ruling idea of the fair. Auction Sale. . Mr. Chas.
