' • ' Sunday Play Not Approved . , ; The possibility of having an area of ; six acres. at Ngongotaha at present vested in the. Rotorua County Conn-* cil, gazetted as a priblic recreation reserve is being at present considered. Some time ago, the Council leased the area to two trustees on behalf of the residents of Ngongotaha and cpnsiderable improvements in laying out the ai'ea have already been carried out, At the Council meeting Yesterday the question of Sunday play on the area was considered and although it was realised that for the present, the Council has no jurisdic-r tion in the matter, it was decided to inform the trustees that the Council did not approve of Sunday play. Road Sign Refused The Rotorua County Council at its meeting yesterday received an applicritiori from Mr. "E". ^B'ruce of Fairy Springs, seeking permission to erect an advertising sign" Pn the road boundary tp his prpperty on. the RotoruaNgongotaha Road. ' Afier consideration, the . Council decided to ref use the applieation on the grounSs that it was not advisable tb encourage the erectiori of advertising signs on the roadside. . ; Chess Season, Ends The Rotorua Chess Club eoncluded their season's operations on Tuesday evening with a North v. Sou+h Rotorua contest, held in. their club. .ro.omp in the Citizeris' Club, North secuied a'win by 41 games to 2i. Tuesday evening on the Te Pujce-Rotorua highway when a motor lorry driven by Mr. George Robinson, a carrier, of Rotorua, struck a cow on the road causing cbrisi'd'erable damage to the front of the vehicje. ; The driver, who was alone, was pninjuied but being unable to proceed slept the night at a; nearby f armhpuse. .
