LAUNCHES BUSY

FISHING ON'LAKE TAUPO SOME GOOD BAGS SECURED During the first two days of the fishing season Taupo launches had experienced a very busy period and some good bags had been taken, states a report to the Conservator of Fish and Game at Rotorua. Several l'mit- catches were secured and the smallest catch in any one launch was 22 fish. Whakaipo Bay had proved the most popular portion of the lake for launch parties who had generally used the spoon. The launch "Sunbeam" with Messrs Anderson, Green and party, had secured a limjt bag for each rod with a total of 45 fish on the opening day. The average weight in this catch was 51bs and the largest fish 81bs. A Taupo picnic party in the launch "Dawn" had taken 36 fish and the launches "Tainui" and "Whizbang" had taken 27 and 22 fish respectively. In the launch "Tamati" Messrs Power and party had taken a bag of 52, the heaviest being ,9ilbs. • Using the dry fly on the opening day Mr. W. H. Tisdall took. a limitbag. Commander and Mrs Prentiee had taken 14 and Mr and Mrs McCulloch seven. These last bags were all taken above the Huka Falls. A number a row boats had been operated in likely spots on the lake and the majority had taken catches of five or six, with a genera.1 average in weight of 51bs. Using a row boat, Mr. W. White Kad taken a limit bag at the Outlet.
