TROUT FISHING
CONDITIONS IN BAY OF PLENTY STREAMS The first of a series of reports from rangers regarding the fishing in the districts controlled by the Conservator of Fish and Game at Rotorua (MrA. Kean) are due to-day. One report, from the ranger in the Whakatane and Opotiki area, coverdng the Tarawera, Waimana, Waioeka and Whakatane rivers, gives details of excellent bags of fish, but up to the present their condition has been poor, only a few really fine trout being landed. Two anglers have caught the limit and there are many others with 10 and more fish to their credit. The largest fish taken turned the scales at five pounds, but the majority were from three to three and a-half pounds. A note was also added to the report that many small fish were hooked and were returned to the water. It appears that most of the big catches were made with a spoon or an inanga, although two anglers landed over 10: fish with the fly.
