MISS SALAMAN TOOK FULL SHARE OF PILOTING AEROPLANE COMPANION'S HIGH PRAISE
-By Telegraph — Copyright)
CAPE TOWN, Thursday. Miss Peggy Salaman states that she had only 20 hoqrs sleep during her record flight from England. She endured a terrible strain on the third day when she flew 1275 miles over the Sudan swamp countries. She got a terrible shock when she woke up and found Mr. Store circling and looking for a path, with only 17 gallons of petrol and down below, wild country. The petrol dropped to six gallons when they suddenly found a path outside Juba. There were only a few drops of petrol left. She was advised not to spend the night at Juba as leopards visited the aerodrome. She got two lion cubs which she will offer to Princess Elizabeth. Miss Salaman slept with the cubs on her lap and her head -on the tank. She intends to return by steamer to Marseilles, then to fly solo to London. Mr. Store was emphatic that Peggy did her full share of flying. A British official wireless message states that Miss Salaman said the flight had not been a strain, and when she had had a bath she would be willing to do it again. In an interview Mr. Store said: "This certainly is Miss Salaman's trip. She has definitely taken the weight of the flying- My job was chiefly navigating. I want to give
Miss Salaman full credit for all she has done." ! The actual flying time was 64 hours. The pilots took charge of the machine in turns. The aeroplane is an ordinary standard Puss Moth, which cost £1000 and was given to Miss Salaman by her mother as a birthday present.
