MEMBERS BECOME TALKATIVE BUT REPEAT OUTWORN ARGUMENTS ONE EYE ON ELECTORS?
WELLINGTON, Thursday. Members of the House of Representatives were very talkative at yesterday's sitting on a subject which, judging by the nature of many of the speeches and the fact that most of the points had already been made and reiterated in several earlier debates, was perhaps ealculated to weigh largely with the electors a*s polling day approaches. The wheat and flour duties and the price of the loaf were practically the sole topic of discussion on the second ■ reading of the Customs Acts Amendment Bill and several hours were spent in traversing ground which had been well covered earlier in the session. In the committee stage several amendments were moved, Independent members being particularly assiduous in their desire to alter the Bill to their satisfactioii, but the measure. emerged unscathed.
