-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Rec. Nov. 5, 7.10 p.m. LONDON, Thursday. ' As Master of the Merchant Navy, the Prince of Wales had a busy day at Merseyside, visiting numerous places of interest ashore and afloat He attended a dinner of the Master Mariners' Company at the Liverpool Town Hall, where the Lord Mayor of London, toasting the company, announced that the Mariners' Company's petition to become a Livery Company of the City of London had received the approval of the Court of Aldermen. The Prince of Wales, replying, told the story of an American who had been invited to a Livery Company's dinner. He was unable to obtain the exact definition of the word "livery," but after he had sat down for five minutes and had a look at the. menu of twelve succulent courses, he turned to his friend and said "Aye! Now I know why you call these livery companies." The Prince added that the Master Mariners' Compapy had been made possible by the generosity of individuals, in particular, Lord Rothermere, who had contributed £5000.
